When it comes to extracts, the old saying is true: Fire in, fire out! What does that mean for you as a cannabis extractor, and how do you ensure you’re really putting that fuego in the machine? Well, it all starts with the prep work!
While you could toss whole colas into the extractor, you wouldn’t get the most quality and bang for your buck. We all love giant, sticky nugs, but this isn’t the place for them! What we need here is as much surface area as we can get!
Solvent-based or solvent-less, you want the most surface area possible so the heat or solvent can do its job and pull the cannabinoids out of the material. Quality-wise, the plant material should be something you’d be happy to put in your bowl, perfectly smokeable and loaded with trichomes. Tossing schwag-bag, terp-less grass in the machine won’t turn it into super sauce!
One way we lose precious terpenes and trichomes is during the grinding process. Some grinders whip through the material, knocking off precious trichs and terps and turning the whole deal into dust. You need a grinder that’s gentle on the ganja, not a weed whacker!
