Difference Between Cannabis and Hemp

One gets you by and the other gets you high!

Put a hemp and cannabis plant next to each other, and you’d have a hard time telling them apart with just your eyes. That’s because they’re both the same plant! In fact, according to the U.S. government, there’s a single, tiny distinction that makes a world of difference.

In 2018, the U.S. faced a unique problem. Farmers wanted to grow hemp, but it’s the same plant as cannabis, which is illegal under federal law. The government was worried that illegal marijuana would slip through with the legal hemp if they full-on legalized cannabis. How could they allow hemp production in the United States without breaking the federal marijuana laws? They settled on drawing an arbitrary line in the sand centered around our favorite chemical: THC. To be classified as hemp and not marijuana, the THC content of the plant material has to be 0.3% or lower. That’s definitely not getting anyone high!

One truth remains, regardless of the law: We want to break buds, not our backs! Whether you’re chopping kilos of cannabis or handfuls of hemp, you need a consistent, even grind. At the heart of every sensi shredder is an all-copper motor that spins low and slow to turn your dense, sticky nugs into an extract (or pre-roll) worthy grind, without busting them to bits!
